課程概述 |
This course is designed to prepare helping professionals to make active and purposeful use of their whole selves in their encounters with clients. Special focus will be on concepts and techniques for using their own life experiences in facilitating therapeutic change. Students are encouraged to develop insight into their own personal life experiences, to realize the implications of these experiences, and to develop skills to intentionally use-of-self into the therapeutic model of their choice. |
課程目標 |
1. To gain knowledge of the use of self in therapy
2. To identify one's “signature themes” (one's personal life struggles, coping mechanisms and patterns of functioning)
3. To describe the evolution of signature themes and their impact on one's personal and professional lives
4. To understand the clinical implications of the use of self
5. To develop and facilitate self-care for helping professionals
6. To reflect on how the course impacts on one personally and professionally |
課程要求 |
1. Punctuality, attendance, and active participation are expected. Students are required to read the assigned readings and to raise at least 2 discussion questions. Each student chooses a fellow student to form a pair to engage in-class discussion to critically evaluate the required readings. The semester is divided into two-period, so students will switch partners to form two pairs in total.
2. Journaling: The purpose of the 3-5 page journal is to help students to actively engage in self-reflection. The focus of attention is student’s personal insights about the class materials and/or others’ presentation, & how student link those to their signature theme, personal and professional experience. Please submit each journal 3-day after each class.
3. “Signature theme” presentation: Make a 20-minute oral presentation to include the following aspects: your signature theme(s), your struggle with your signature theme(s), your genogram, your family history and your clinical work.
4. Reflection paper: Please write 5-10 page paper to include a). The reflection of how the course contribute to your personal and professional development; what personal changes have taken place in you and in your relationship? How have your clinical practice and your perception of yourself as a helping professional changed? b). The course evaluation to describe your likes, dislikes, gains, and suggestions to this course content and design. The due date of the paper is on June 2. |
